Alliteration Competition

Alliteration: [uh-lit-uh-rey-shuhn]: the commencement of two or more words of a word group with the same letter.

Basically what  this means is to write a sentence, paragraph etc. using one letter to begin each word. An example of this is: Frogs feast flies for fun. I was thinking that it would be fun to have a competition of alliteration sentences. Whoever can post the longest alliteration sentence, gets crowned winner of this week. Your letter choice is up to you. To be able to actually have competition though, I need at least 4 entries or the competition will go until I have that many (instead of going to the end of the week). Please leave your email or blog url,  so that I can notify you of your win. Good Luck!

Think About It:Careers

Recently, at school, we have taken a break with math, and instead, have been learning about careers. So, we went on a website that asked us a bunch of questions about what we are interested in. After answering about a group of 50+ questions, our results came up. This is what tells us the different jobs that might interest us. So we had about 45 different jobs listed in order of interest. So most of my results had to do with either animal and plant biology, computer programming and software, or law. I thought that it was very interesting to see how wide of a range I really had. I always have loved animals (especially) and computers. I just did not realize how many jobs available there were in these fields. Have you ever thought about the occupation for you? Think about it.

My Thanksgiving

Every year on the wednesday before thanksgiving, I have the day off. This usually just means sleeping in and doing nothing, until we get around dinner time (5:30-6:30). If thanksgiving is at my house that year, we go out shopping for the turkey, the stuffing, cranberry sauce, ingredients to make pie, and more. This year however, thanksgiving is at my grandma’s house. She lives in Shelby Township (by detroit) which is about one and a half to two hours away. My Aunt, Uncle, 2 cousins, grandma, my mom, my dad, my brother and sister and me are all going to be in her crowded apartment on thanksgiving. But every year that it’s at her house, she tends to pull it off. She is a great cook!!

Another thing that I always think of at thanksgiving is black friday. That is the one thing that I truly look forward to every year. On Wednesday and thursday, me and my mom spend some time looking on the internet and at the thanksgiving paper and planning our black friday route. We usually always hit best buy first, then go to Target as our first stops. But it kind of depends on what people we are buying for and what they want.

But anyway, I am really looking forward to Thanksgiving!!!

My Web 2.0 experience

Throughout the last trimester, in Computer Science, we made glogs (private-like a website), weeblys (websites), animotos (videos), and these blogs (all of which are on the blogroll). My favorite was definitely creating this blog. I only got one person from Tasmania, Australia, to visit my blog and they didn’t even leave a comment. But it was cool knowing that they actually came to my blog. I hopefully can keep the blog, but if I can’t, I will just create another one on my personal computer. The other thing I really enjoyed was the animoto. You create videos using text, other video clips, and pictures. Then add your choice of music to top it all off. I have an example of an animoto under my “greener ideas” page. But I really enjoyed this class and am looking forward to coming back next year.

Going Rogue: Palin’s visit to MI

palin2Sarah Palin recently finished her book titled “Going Rouge”. Her first stop for her book tour was in Grand Rapids, Michigan.Country music played as Palin’s tour bus, painted to resemble the cover of her book, pulled up to the Woodland Mall in Grand Rapids. Many, many people came from many miles away and stayed over night just to see Palin. She answered many questions but when asked about John McCain, she simply replied “I have great respect for him” and said nothing else. It was as if she just didn’t care to talk about him. Many of the people that came to visit Palin, held up signs and banners, to support Palin in the making of her book, and also many people wanted her to run for president. If you ask me, I think she would be terrible in the president’s position. Most of her money would go to “hockey moms” all around the world (ha ha ha ha). But anyway, I think she just wants to be put on the spot, wants to gain popularity, I doubt she even knows what she is doing now a days. A lot of people even say she isn’t known for politics, anymore, but for wanting her popularity to grow.

The Grad’s Job Hunt

Our economy now, is very weak. Now we all hope that President Obama will do something about it. That’s why we elected him. But while we wait (which could be a very long wait) here are the statistics of unemployment rates in Michigan. First off, the job market for college grads in Michigan has dropped 40% in the past year. On top of that, hiring levels are predicted to drop 2% by 2010.The MSU study said companies looking for new hires include those in sectors such as e-commerce, agriculture production and food processing, environmental sciences, information systems, manufacturing, nonprofits, statistics, nursing, social work, multimedia and Web design. Now even though these companies are looking for new hires, especially in the agriculture field, they still are having a tough time hiring.

The big question now is “what should President Obama do, and what can us people do to help out and hopefully cure the unemployment rate and, ultimately, this tough economic time?”

More Troops?

Most people should know by now, about president Obama’s big decision to either send more troops to the war, take some out of the war, or leave it exactly as it is. A poll taken says that exactly 50% of the people who voted say put more troops in and 50% of the people said take them out. The reason for this being such a big deal is that so many American soldiers are dying. We need to get this war resolved, before it turns into a huge issue. What do you think? How should we turn our problem to a friendship between these 2 countries? Or should we not become friends and keep fighting till someone wins? Could this become another world war?

The Iranian ban of Twitter and Facebook

In Iran recently, the government has banned the usage of Twitter and Facebook. The Iran president had no explanation of why he made the decision to do this. The government also closely monitors and filters blogs. Out of the 65-70 million people in Iran, about only 47 million Iranians have cell phones and only 21 million have a computer or internet source of some kind.

What do you think about this, and why do you think the government has banned the usage of Twitter and Facebook? Do you know anything more on this story? Please comment.

About Me

Hi, I’m Jessi, I am a 7th grader, and I live in Michigan. Everyday, I go to school and have 6 hours (computer science, science, gym, ELA/ language arts, social studies, and math.) I enjoy reading. I am currently reading an AWESOME book called: The Hunger Games. I also love sports and right now I am in a league for basketball. My favorite sport though, is lacrosse. I have always wanted to go outside of the USA and visit, learn about other cultures, and ultimately, vacation! My favorite food is pizza for a main entree, but for dessert, I just love the taste of baclava. I love to cook and try to find different foods that I have never had. I especially love to try to cook different foods native to different countries.
